From the Cavern to the Cathedral

From Drakensberg – Cathedral Peak Day 4

Tugela Gorge was a 5 hour easy hike that we did the previous day. We did not want to leave the cavern after that, also we realised that we actually liked hiking, even though it took a holiday for us to realise it. It is a great walk for those that happen to be in the Drakensberg area and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We had breakfast and then checked out. The idea was to do a walk to Fan Falls at 5am, which Shantelle was not too keen on after our shoes got soaked the previous day. She wanted to do Silent Woman. In the end, we were too tired to get up at 5am, at 7am however we were rudely awakened to a SMS notifying me that some of my monthly expenses were being taken off. A word of caution here, it is not much fun to be reminded of real life expenses when spending money on holiday.

We went for a full body massage before we left. I was under the impression that my massues was trying to break my body. It was fantastic! I was wondering how Shantelle was handling hers. When we were done, she mentioned that hers was a light rub and that what she wanted was something to sooth her muscles. The woman apparently only barely touched her skin, strange though because Shantelle normally prefers rubs over deep massages. You can read more about the actual spa and setting in my review of The Cavern.
It took us 2 hours to get to Cathedral Peak Hotel. We arrived before the rooms were ready and decided to have lunch. We had to pay for lunch, which we were by now unaccustomed to. The portion sizes were also insane and everything came with chips (French fries). If you want to hear more about Cathedral Peak you can read about it in my review.

From Drakensberg – Cathedral Peak Day 4

We were really excited to get into some of the many activities that Cathedral Peak has to offer. I have never done archery and neither has Shantelle. We felt like being adventures and took the bicycles down to the range. It seemed like I might just have a talent for basic archery. We stopped when my fingers got sore and Shantelle also mentioned her arm was sore. We rode the bikes up to the golf course and then returned to the Hotel, “and we thought the hill at the cavern was steep!” We had afternoon tea when we got back and then went for a swim in the heated pool they have. One word of advice, if you are staying in the Superior rooms (Rooms 200+), it is quite a walk to any of the facilities at the hotel, especially after meal times, full, to get back to your room.

Dinner was a buffet with near everything. There were even seafood platters, in the mountains? The milk tart was really good and we tasted a little bit of everything. Nothing else really stood out for us. When we arrive back at our room, the bed duvey was pulled back, there were chocolates on each of our dressers, and there was an African bed-time story left for us on the covers. The next morning was a guided hike.
